The Virgin Mary – What about her?
Is She the Mother of God?
Article By Marc Hill
The idea of Mary and the true purpose for her in God’s plan started with Eve.
Like the first Adam, who was the figure of the second Adam, Jesus Christ, so Eve was the figure of the body, the church that was to come.
Let us now read the scriptures that point out how Adam was prophetic of Jesus.
Romans 5:14 KJV Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.
1 Corinthians 15:45-47 KJV (45) And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. (46) Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. (47) The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.
We also see that what the first Adam said of the relationship of Eve to him, the same was said of the church to Christ.
Genesis 2:23 KJV And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
Such was according to the flesh.
Ephesians 5:30 KJV For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
Such is according to the Spirit.
Eve was the body of Adam who who was the prefigure of Jesus Christ, the head of the body, His church.
As man was to be the head or director of his wife, his body, so also Christ was to be head and director of his body, the church.
Ephesians 5:23 KJV For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
God made Eve from man without the help of a woman.
Genesis 2:21-22 KJV And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; (22) And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
God made the second Adam from the woman without the help of man.
Matthew 1:20 KJV But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
Galatians 4:4 KJV But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
Even though Adam was a prophecy of Christ and Eve a prophecy of the church, the promise of salvation started with Abraham and Sara.
Genesis 12:2-3 KJV And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: (3) And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
Genesis 15:5 KJV And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.
Abraham was about 75 years old when God made the promise to him. The promise that God would give him an heir began to be fulfilled when Abraham and Sara were almost 100 years old and Sara’s womb had became sterile.
Romans 4:18-19 KJV Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. (19) And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara's womb:
That is why, when Sara heard what the angels told Abraham, that within the normal time she would have a child, she laughed, because she said:
Genesis 18:12 KJV “Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?”
Please read verses 10, 11, 13 and 14.
Sara was to bear the first child of promise, Isaac, who was to inherit the promise which would be completed in Christ that Mary, a virgin, would bring forth the work of the Holy Spirit of God.
Romans 9:7 KJV Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, Isaac shall thy seed be called.
Hebrews 11:18 KJV Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called:
Sara, then, is symbolic of the church, the body of Christ, which was to come since she also had Isaac, a work of the Holy Spirit of God and not of man.
The virgin Mary was a descendant of Sara, who had the first son of promise. Therefore, both women were symbolic of the church that was to come – therefore, all Christian women are daughters of Sara.
1 Peter 3:6 KJV Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.
Jesus the Son, but not the Father.
Mary, then, was the mother of Jesus, the son of man, but she was not and could not be the mother of God. It was in the fleshy Jesus in which God incarnated himself to reconcile the world to Himself. The body of Jesus which the Holy Spirit of God formed in Mary, also became a descendant of Abraham and Sara, but not the Spirit of God that was in him.
It was and is impossible for Mary to be mother of God since God created her and gave her life. Besides that, God is a Spirit, not flesh and blood which was what she gave birth to.
John 4:24 KJV God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
Countless millions are misled by deceiving spirits whon teach that because God was in Christ, Mary was the mother of God. They use scriptures like Matthew 1:23; and 2nd Corinthians 5:19.
But the virgin Mary could not give birth to the Holy Spirit of God, but only to the fleshy body of Jesus and only by the intelligence, wisdom and power of the Holy Ghost.
It is true that in Jesus Christ dwell all the divinity, that is, the Father, the Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.
Colossians 2:9 KJV For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
What is the significance of this scripture; is it that God-person left His throne empty to come to earth and dwell in the man Jesus? We know by other scriptures or other statements of the Word of God that the answer to that question is emphatically – No!
If God-person complete was in Jesus, why the following declaration of scriptures that Jesus is the Son and God is the Father?
Matthew 11:25-27; Mark 14:36; Luke 23:46.
Jesus was the son of God in that he received the Holy Spirit of God to dwell with him.
Matthew 3:16 KJV And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
Jesus the man of flesh that God raise, prepared and anointed with the Holy Spirit of truth which is the will of God in Jesus.
John 14:8-11 KJV Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. (9) Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? (10) Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. (11) Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.
Acts 10:38 KJV How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
John 1:1, 14 KJV In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
14. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Jesus Christ and God were two entities, but were the same mind with the same purpose.
It is true that the Holy Spirit of God, the Spirit Word, the truth, the will or mind of God, was in Jesus. That is why Jesus said what He did in:
John 6:63 KJV It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
He also declared, In John 14:6 KJV I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Also in John 17:17 KJV Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
Yes God was in Christ in the form of the Holy Spirit of truth, the Word of God, by which God created all things, but God, the person, was not in Jesus but on His throne.
Philippians 2:5 KJV Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
Philippians 2:13 KJV For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
The above scripture, as well as a few others, are easily understood to mean that the Holy Spirit of God dwells in true and scriptural Christians as He dwelt in Jesus. That being true, then is my mother the mother of God because some years after she gave birth to me I was baptized and received the Holy Spirit of God as Jesus the man received it when he was baptized?
1 Corinthians 2:12-13 KJV (12) Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. (13) Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
Truly, Mary was chosen to be the mother of the man Jesus, but truly it was impossible for her to be the mother of God who created all things . Jesus was flesh. He was also a son of man.
Matthew 8:20 KJV And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
Surely the Holy Spirit of God, the Word, the mind of God in Christ, Mary was not its mother.
