Matthew 7:21-23
This scripture is one of the most difficult to he understood in harmony with the rest of the
word of God. Because of that difficulty, many give it their own personal interpretation which
appears to he right but in comparing it with other scriptures, it does not match up.
You, the reader, will think, "He will now give this scripture his own personal interpretation."
No, it is not necessary that I do so, neither would I even consider that God needs my
intelligence and wisdom to interpret what he wants to communicate to His creation. The
Bible, the Word of God, interprets itself when it is the Holy Spirit of God guiding and
teaching the student.
Anyone can read and memorize parts of the Bible, but understanding comes only from God
rather than me considering interpreting this scripture by my own intelligence and wisdom.
When I first started thinking about writing on this subject, I began by praying and asking God
and his Holy Spirit in me to guide me and give me the wisdom to understand it in harmony
with His will. You should do the same.
Now, with God's help, let us carefully analyze Matthew 7:21-23.
We can clearly see that these people calling Jesus, "Lord, Lord," were motivated by a fervent,
devout, and faithful attitude for Him. Because this declaration, Matthew 7 :21-23, was made
by Jesus before his death, burial, and resurrection, it has to refer to a time after his death,
burial. and resurrection and not at the time he made the statement. The grammatical structure
directs us to reason that if we believe that this statement made by Jesus refers to the time in
which he was living, we will be making an error in what some creditable commentators call
"anachronism" or error in computing the time reference.
We can began computing the time by asking the question, When was Jesus made Lord and
Christ? Was it before his death and resurrection? Another question, in order to clarify the
time is, When did the authority of the New Testament officially begin, before or after his
death and resurrection?
In order not to contradict the Holy Spirit of God who dictated the Word of God, the answer
to both questions must be after his death, burial, and resurrection.
Acts 2:36 -- Let all the house of Israel therefore know assuredly that God has made him

Acts 2:36 -- Let all the house of Israel therefore know assuredly that God has made him

This scripture makes it even clearer that Matthew 7 :21-23 is referring to a time in the future
or after the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ that they would call him "Lord, Lord."
Hebrews 9:16-17 -- For where a will is involved, the death ofthe one who made it must be established;
For a will takes effect only at death, since it is not inforce as long as the one who made it is alive.
It becomes obvious that he was not the. Lord over God's people while he was yet alive
because it was after his death, burial, and resurrection that he claimed all authority in heaven
and on earth.
Matthew 28:18 -- And Jesus came and said to them, ''All authority in heaven and on hearth
has been given to me.
We must note that they claim to have done a great portion of God's will in preaching, casting
out devils, and performing many miracles.
The truth is that many claim to preach in His name, but that claim needs to be qualified. To preach
in the name of Christ is to preach by and with His authority, and no one can preach in His name or
by his authority or even call him Lord in the carnal mind, condition, as we will understand later.
Let us look at the phrase in Matthew 7:22, "Many will say to me on that day. " Notice the grammatical
composition, "on that day." That makes it clear that he was not referring to the immediate time of
his life, but to a period in the future. He certainly was not referring to the Old Testament time in which
he lived and died.
There are other scriptures in which Jesus refers to a future time or a time after his death, burial, and
resurrection, or during the time of the New Testament. "That day" or a future day is in harmony with
the scripture and of necessity is the Christian age and not some day of the week during his life in
the flesh (Hebrews 5:7) when he had not yet been made Lord and Christ.
There are many commentators who contemplate that during the time Jesus lived on the earth that
people did not call him "Lord, Lord," but rather "teacher." Or if they did call him Lord it would be
more like a term of courtesy and not Lord, as Christ. But after the resurrection, they would call
him Lord as an application, as an appeal of adoration and confession of his divinity.

him Lord as an application, as an appeal of adoration and confession of his divinity.
During the time of Christ's flesh, he made reference to himself as "the son of man," Matthew8:20.
This is another reason why it is more reasonable to teach that in Matthew 7:21-23 he
is referring to a future period of time when in truth they could say. "He is Lord."
If we accept this interpretation, that is if we connect all that is in relation to Matthew 7 :21-23
and its subject matter, we will clearly see that it points to a time after the resurrection and the
beginning of the New Testament church and remission of sons that started at Pentecost or
the 50th day after his resurrection (Acts 2: 1-47). Also, we will understand that "on that day"
is a future period.
"On that day" [EKEINE] the he` in the Greek work Hemera, day, is sometimes used in the
New Testament to mean more than a day as distinguished from night. It is used also to mean
a longer period of time. "That day" means the great day of the Lord, the day of judgment
which is the Christian Age. That day began on the day of Pentecost in about 33 A.D. when
the church, the gospel, and the New Testament began. It will continue to the end.
1 Peter 4:17-18 -- For it is time for judgment to begin with the family of God; and if it
begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God?
And, "If it is hard/or the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and
the sinner?"
Now let us turn to Matthew 7 :21 and apply it to the time when Jesus had already been made
Lord and Christ, after his resurrection (Acts 2:36). Because he had conquered not only sin
but death (Rev. 3 :21), he was made Lord. And after the resurrection he can be addressed as
Lord by those who qualify.
In Matthew 7:21-23 the believers do not qualify even though they call him "Lord, Lord."
These people believe that Jesus is indeed their Lord and that they are in a saved state or
condition. But as Jesus himself declared it, he was not their Lord. Had he been, he would
have known them for he knows all who are his; yet he denied knowing them.
2 Timothy 2:19 -- Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this
inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his, "and, "Everyone who confesses the name
of the Lord must turn away from wickedness. "
Their calling Jesus, Lord, Lord, indicates that they were devoted to what they believed. Too,
they acknowledged he was the Christ when they declared that they prophesied in his name.
The name of Christ signifies power and authority. They also cast our demons and worked
miracles. These are, no doubt, great works but obviously they could not have done true miracles.
Please notice the words, did we not prophesy, cast out demons and perform miracles? Are
they not referring to a time that has already past? So that when Jesus said, "On that day," he
This is another reason why it is more reasonable to teach that in Matthew 7:21-23 he

Please notice the words, did we not prophesy, cast out demons and perform miracles? Are
they not referring to a time that has already past? So that when Jesus said, "On that day," he
was pointing to the Christian age which will be understood further in this lesson, to be the
judgment day period and the end of it. Many who expect to be saved will tell Jesus what they
did during the Christian age or the judgment day period as the reason for them to be saved.
It becomes obvious that Matthew 7 :22 is speaking of a future time after the death, burial, and
resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Though these people, during the Christian Age or the judgment day period, believed that they
had done the will of God in prophesying or preaching, casting out demons, and producing
what they considered miracles, evidently they had not done it by the authority of Jesus Christ
or by his power. Another thing to consider is that these were not the works of faith that God's
will required of believers for them to be in a saved relationship with the Savior. Had they
obeyed that part of God's will they would, at the end of the judgment day period, have not
only the right to be saved but the right to call Him, Lord, Lord. Had they obeyed what God
required of them to be born children of God, (John 1:12-13; 3:3-6) Jesus then would have
recognized them as His brothers and sisters. At that time Jesus would have said to them,
"Come, you who are blessed of my Father."
So now we see that when they confessed that they had done the will of God and did call
Jesus, Lord, Lord, it was during the Christian Age or the judgment day period. This teaching
will be further confirmed as we progress to other scriptures relating to that.
But now let us consider another point. When Jesus was alive and in the flesh, the New
Testament, the will of God for us, had not yet been given to man. This was the reason that
Jesus told his disciples that when the Holy Spirit would be given to them, He, the Holy
Spirit would guide them unto all truth.
John 16:12-13 -- I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now,
When the spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak
on his own, but will speak whatever he hears and he will declare to you the things that are
to come.
We see then, how that Christ is not unjust. He was not going to consider these people
responsible for His commandments while he was alive and the New Testament was yet not
in force.
Jesus Christ came for that purpose--to give man the New Testament which contains the
instructions on how to be saved. But while he was alive his testament could not be given or
be in force even if it was given. It was to be in force only after his death.
Hebrews 9:16-17 -- Where a will is involved, the death of the one who made it must
established.
For a will takes effect only at death, since it is not in force as long as the one who

judgment day period and the end of it. Many who expect to be saved will tell Jesus what they

Hebrews 9:16-17 -- Where a will is involved, the death of the one who made it must
established.
For a will takes effect only at death, since it is not in force as long as the one who
made it is alive.
Now let us consider Matthew 7:23. Here Jesus declares to these religiously active and
devout people, "I never knew you." Why did he not know these people? . How could he not
know them? They were so religiously devoted and so active to the extent fhat they preached
or prophesied, cast out devils, and performed miracles in his name, or according to their
belief, his authority.
We are going to see that in these scriptures, when they address Him, "Lord, Lord," and
when they did the works they claim to have done, this is definitely referring to the future
Christian Age. One main reason for this conclusion is that at the time that Jesus made that
statement he was not yet made Lord and Christ. Jesus was made Lord and Christ after his
death, burial, and resurrection and not before.
One must also remember that it was after his resurrection that His church was established
and he began to rule in His kingdom.
It was, therefore, during the Christian age that He did not recognize them; they were not
under the Christian Age or judgment day period but rather they were still under
condemnation. They were not in Christ neither were they members of His body, His church.
Romans 8:1-2-There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ
Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin
and death.
These people were still in the flesh state or condition, they had not yet been born of the
spiritual law and consequently He had, during the Christian Age, not known them. Another
question arises as we consider the rest of what Jesus declared to them.
"Depart from me." Why would Jesus, at the end of the Christian Age, the judgment day
period reject such religious and devoted people and accuse them of, "You that work
iniquity?"
To this scripture many different interpretations are given which do not fit into the Bible
picture puzzle. The following is one the most popular of the private of personal
interpretation: "They were not sincere." Buy even if they had not been sincere, had they
been born spiritual children of God, Jesus would have "known them as his brothers and
sisters.
A real Bible-created Christian, a truly spiritually born child of God, a brother of Christ, if
in sin, Jesus will know of him during the Christian Age or judgment day period. But as we
can clearly understand in Matthew 7:21-23, Jesus had not known these people during the
judgment day period; that is from the day of Pentecost until the end of the Christian Age, He
never knew them.

It must therefore be concluded that the truth is that Christ did not ever know these people
during the judgment day period. The key to understand that, is that He never knew them.
We must consider other scriptures in relation to the above conclusion. We should not even
begin to give it our own personal interpretation to satisfy our own will, desires, or
convenience. Remember that God does not need man's intelligence to interpret his message.
His message will interpret itself when God gives the student the interpretation. To
personally interpret God's word is contrary to God's will.
2 Peter 1:20-21 -- First of all you must understand this, that no prophecy of scripture is
a matter of one's own interpretation, because no prophecy ever came by human will, but
holy men of God moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
The following makes it clear that the Bible will interpret itself. I have known preachers with
a master's degree in Bible who did not understand Romans 11:26--"And so all Israel will be
saved." When telling others what it means they usually interpret to say that "all of Israel will
be saved because God is a merciful and loving God." No doubt, God is a merciful and
loving God, but to teach that all of Israel will be saved is not in harmony with the word of God.
When a person is not in a covenant relationship with God, according to the word of God,
God does not recognize or know that person, God does not accept that person as spiritual or
a citizen of his kingdom. For instance, not all the Jews who were descendants of Abraham
were accepted as sons of God according to the promise of God,
Romans 9:6-8 -- It is not as though the word of God had failed. For not all Israelites truly
belong to Israel,
and not all of Abraham's children are his true descendants; but "It is through Isaac
that descendants shall be named for you. "
This means that it is not the children of the flesh who are the children of God, but the
children of the promise are counted as descendants.
We see that only the descendants ofIsaac who received the commandments with obedient
faith and lived and died in obedience were counted sons of God. These were even
considered saints when Jesus shed his blood and paid the full price for the sins of those who
had obeyed by faith.
When Jesus was resurrected, those who had lived and died in obedient faith on the other side
of the cross, were resurrected and came forth from the graves where Satan had held them
prisoners. They were sanctified by the blood of Christ.
Matthew 27:52-53 -- The tombs broke open and the bodies of many holy people who had

Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law.
For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;
But didn't these people in Matthew 7 :21-23 show or prove faith in Jesus Christ? Yes, but it
is possible that what they claimed to have done, as some claim even now, was not real.
Today we have religious people who claim to cast out demons, prophecy, and perform
miracles. Isn't it possible that these people of Matthew 7:21-23 and the modem ones who
claim to do the same in the name of Jesus have obeyed a perverted gospel?
Galatians 1:6-7-- I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you
by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel--
which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion
and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ.
These are deceived into thinking they are saved and that Jesus is their Lord. If so, they might
be religiously devoted and have faith, but still have a carnal mind, not yet born spiritually.
John 4:22-24- Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation
is of the Jews. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father
in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
God will not receive glory from the carnal man or the religious works done in the flesh by
the man of the flesh.

John 5:41 -- I do not accept praise from men,
Isaiah 64:6 -- All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are
like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf and like the wind our sins sweep us away.
BORN OF THE SEED OF GOD
To be known by Christ, we must, as sons of God, be born spiritually. True sons are the
spiritually born. Those born of the flesh are children of God only by natural creation.
Romans 9:8 -- That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children
of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.
But true Christians are spiritual sons born of God's seed. That is why Jesus told Nicodemus,
a Jew and a descendant of Abraham, that in order to see the Kingdom of God and enter into
it, one had to be born again.
Of course, this is not referring to a new fleshly birth, but a spiritual birth. Another way of
saying this, keeping in mind all the scriptures, is that one must do away with the fleshly mind
based on the influence of the sinful flesh and begin a new spiritual mind -- the mind of Christ.
John 3:1-6 -- Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a member of the
Jewish ruling council.
He came to Jesus at night and said, "Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come
from God For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not
with him."
In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless
he is born again. "
"How can a man be born when he is old?" Nicodemus asked "Surely he cannot enter
a second time into his mother's womb to be born!"
Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he
is born of water and the Spirit.
Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.
1 Pet 1 :22-23 -- Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you
have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart.
For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the
living and enduring word of God.
The spiritual seed is the word of God by which He reproduces Himself or begets children.
The womb or mind of the carnal man is where the seed is planted.
The seed that produces spiritual children for God is His word which is planted in the mind
of the man of flesh. When planted in the heart or mind of man and the word of the kingdom
is not understood, the devil will take it out of that persons mind.
Matthew 13:19 -- When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not
understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is
the seed sown along the path.
The seed is the Word of God.
Luke 8:11 -- "This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God
of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.

When the seed of God, his word, is planted in the mind of man, and that mind is fertile to the
spiritual word, it will cause that person to believe and want to obey.
Since the Gospel is God's power to save the believer who will obey it (Romans 1: 16), that
is, he that has faith in the gospel, he will be baptized Biblically for the remission of his sins.
This person will be born a spiritual child of God, being spiritually resurrected and reconciled
to God he will become a member of God's family. The following clearly declares such a
statement. Let us reason the following.
A carnal person of an age that understands the difference between right and wrong and has
committed sin is separated from God. He dies spiritually to God, his creator.
Colossians 2: 11-13 -- ln whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without
hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the
operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead
And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he
quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
When that person is scripturally baptized he then is resurrected to live spiritually with Christ.
It is in this relationship that Christ knows that person and not before. When Romans 6: 1-6
is obeyed, we understand that the carnal mind of that person begins to die and the spiritual
mind of Christ is born and begins to live and grow in that person.
This is God's way of reproducing himself. The womb where the seed of God is deposited
is the mind of the carnal man. It is the soil for Gods seed.
2 Timothy 2:19 -- Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The
Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart

When on earth, Jesus declared that he had come to deliver to God's creation the power and
the wisdom for the faithful and obedient to be made spiritual children of God by the will or
seed of God.
John 1:11-13 -- He came unto his own, and his own received him not ..

How can a fleshly person be born a spiritual child of God? God is not flesh, how can he
produce spiritual children? God, being spirit, has his own method by which he reproduces
himself.
This method is the gospel. Paul begat Timothy through and by the gospel which was the
reason he felt like a father toward Timothy. Please read 1 Corinthians 4:15.
In the Christian age, when a person obeys the true and complete gospel with an attitude of
sincerity and honesty to please God, that person is then born a spiritual child of God. This
is what the Word of God teaches in John 1 :11-13, 1 Peter 1 :22-23, and John 3:3-6.
Being born a child of God by the seed of God, His Word, the person then becomes the
brother of Jesus Christ who also is a son of God.
The people of Matthew 7:21-23, as religious, sincere, and devoted as they might have been,
had not obeyed the true and complete gospel. the method of which God reproduces himself.
They had never been born spiritual children of God, and Christ was not their Lord or brother,
consequently he never knew them during the Christian age.
Another fundamental reason Jesus was never their Lord is that no one claims Christ as Lord
if he does not have in him the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 8:9,14 -- You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit,
if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does
not belong to Christ.
because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
Regardless of how religious and devoted to his religion a person might be, he has no right
or authority to call Jesus Lord or claim him as Lord if he has not been born spiritually by
means of the gospel of Christ in obedience to the Word.
Most religious people like those of Matthew 7:21-23, believe they have obeyed the true and
complete gospel and that they are saved and are children of God and brothers of Christ. But
they are deceived.
They, like billions, after the death of the apostles and the true church fell away (2
Thessalonians 2: 1-12). The apostate or fallen church then began to teach a perverted gospel
as she covered the civilized world.
Millions who believed this gospel--their children and children's children--lived and died
believing that Jesus was their savior and Lord and that they were saved.

Millions who believed this gospel--their children and children's children--lived and died

The perversion of the true gospel, the keys to enter the Kingdom, was being perverted even
when the apostle Paul was still alive.
Galatians 1:6-7 -- I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who calledyou
by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel--
which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion
and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ.
Before proceeding; please read verses 8-10 of Galatians 1. This will give you a clearer
understanding that those who believed and obeyed the perverted gospel would not be saved
or born children of God, but they would be deceived.
One example of a perverted or false gospel is a baby baptized by sprinkling for the remission
of his supposedly inherited original sin from Adam. In the first place the guilt of sin does
not have the quality of being inherited and in the second a little child does not have the
mental capacity to choose to sin or not to sin.
Is God an unjust God that he could consider a baby being born with having a sin in his soul?
That certainly would make God an unjust God. But God, the true God is not unjust. The
sprinkling of a child to baptize him is not the baptism of Christ. A child does not inherit
anybody's guilt of sin. A child some times might have to suffer on account of someone elses
sin.
Ezekiel 18:20-The soul who sins is the one who will die. The son will not share the guilt
of the father, nor will the father share the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the
righteous man will be credited to him, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged
against him.
The person who sins will die; this is spiritual death or spiritual separation from God not a
physical death. Everybody must die a physical death but now by the New Testament those
who obey the true and complete gospel and abide by it until they die physically, will not die
spiritually.
Sprinkling is not baptism according to the root significance of the Greek word baptizo.
Sprinkling is not even in harmony with its use in the Bible itself. The word baptizo signifies
only emersion, burial, or being overwhelmed.
Sprinkling did not began until approximately the year 400 A.D. It was never declared a
doctrine by Christ or the apostles neither did the Holy Spirit have the apostles write it in the
Bible.

Sprinkling did not began until approximately the year 400 A.D. It was never declared a
doctrine by Christ or the apostles neither did the Holy Spirit have the apostles write it in the
Bible.
It was man who, in the year 1011 A.D., declared it a doctrine. During the Christian Age
there have been a number of perverted gospels. Persons who obey these live and die
believing they are saved and that Jesus is their Savior.
Another perverted or false gospel that the people of Matthew 7 :21-23 possibly obeyed during
the Christian Age to which Jesus was referring was: "Believe in Jesus and accept Him as
your Savior in your heart and you will be saved."
If a person first believes and speaks the words "I accept Jesus as my Savior," but does not
obey the true and complete gospel, he will not be saved regardless of how sincere he might
be; he will not be born again. Such person will not become a spiritual brother of Jesus
Christ.
This brand of gospel is a perverted gospel and denies the power of God to the believer to
save him and that power is the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Romans 1:16 -- For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ;for it is the power of
God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
Others of Matthew 7:21-23 obeyed only part of the gospel in that they obeyed the true gospel
for the remission of sins but did not take the last step of that gospel that added them to the
true Lord's church, the body of Christ.
The Lord's church is the only spiritual body wherein flows the spiritual blood of the Savior
that cleanses our sins from our souls the moment we obey the LORD'S GOSPEL. The
spiritual blood of Christ also washes our sins daily If we live a repented and confessed life.
Acts 2:47 -- And day by day the Lord added to their number (the church) those who were
being saved.
It was on the day of Pentecost that the Holy Spirit through the apostle Peter delivered the
KEYS OF THE KINGDOM TO THE JEWS. When these keys are preached correctly or in
harmony with all the word of God and obeyed like three thousand obeyed them on that day,
then and only then does one truly believe and accept Jesus as his Savior. At the moment of
obedience one's faith is established with God and the great spiritual miracle happens-the
obedient believer is born a child of God, then and only then.
In the New Testament there is no other way or method whereby a believer can be saved or
born a child of God. The apostles were the first members of the church and the Lord has
been adding to their number ever since the church was established in Jerusalem.
So even if the people of Matthew 7:21-23 had obeyed the true gospel for the remission of
sins but had not been added to the Lord's body, and He only has one body and one set of keys
there have been a number of perverted gospels. Persons who obey these live and die
believing they are saved and that Jesus is their Savior.

sins but had not been added to the Lord's body, and He only has one body and one set of keys
for all who truly believe and has enough faith to obey the gospel, it would not have done
them any good. They would not have been born children of God and brothers and sisters of
Jesus Christ. He would not have known them during the Christian Age.
Being added to His body by the Lord is the last step in obeying the gospel and being saved.
The first is to hear the word, the second is to believe it, the third is to repent or change our
minds and our purpose for living, the fourth is to confess before witnesses that we accept
Jesus as our savior, the fifth is to be baptized for the remission of our sins, and finally to be
added to the church by the Lord. At that moment, the person is a spiritual member of God's
family, a child of God, a brother or sister of Jesus, and is known by Jesus.
Of course, many have been and are being deceived into believing that they are the children
of God and that Jesus is their Lord because they are religious.
There are over 300 different religious bodies with similarities with each other and the will
of God and some basic and fundamental differences. These differences are in the pattern or
doctrine of salvation, pattern or doctrine of worship, pattern of government for the church
kingdom, and pattern for daily living.
The persons or believers who obey a perverted pattern of the gospel (Galatians 1 :6,7) and are
added to some religious body with different patterns of salvation, worship, government, and
daily living, are not saved; neither are they born spiritual children of God. And of course,
they are not known by Christ. Regardless of their devotion, these believers have not been
transformed from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light.
Colossians 1:13-14 -- For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought
us into the kingdom of the Son he loves,
in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
Also, these believers do not receive the Holy Spirit of God in their lives. Without the
indwelling of the Holy Spirit, they have no spiritual guide to heaven and they have no
authority or right to call Jesus "Lord, Lord."
1 Corinthians 12:3 -- Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God
says, "Jesus be cursed, " and no one can say, ''Jesus is Lord, " except by the Holy Spirit.
As we can readily understand, God does not make exceptions of persons, neither does he
practice respect of persons regardless of how religious or devout they are if they have not
obeyed the true and complete gospel.
Believers who have been deceived into obeying a false and perverted gospel will teach others
the false gospel.

Believers who have been deceived into obeying a false and perverted gospel will teach others
the false gospel.
2 Timothy 3:13 -- while evil men and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and
being deceived.
All religious persons who have been deceived by false teachers or devil spirits, obey, support,
and teach false doctrine. These people are honestly devoted to what they believe, but that
does not make them right with God or Christ. These people are deceived into believing they
are saved and right with God, and therefore they teach and influence others and commit sin
or iniquity. This has to be the reason Jesus accused them of being doers of iniquity.
The people of Matthew 7 :21-23 are good, friendly, moral, and religious, but according to the
Word of God they believe, obey, support, and teach a false doctrine which does not save
them or make them sons of God.
The Jews, as we know, were very religious, but in error so much that Jesus, himself, accused
them of doing the will of their father the devil. These Jews were deceived by their priests
and scribes to believe by their religion that God was their Father.
John 8:44 -- You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's
desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no
truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father
of lies.
The people of Matthew 7:21-23 are the religious people who would be living during the
Christian age from the cross until now. These people are like the Jews in the time when
Jesus was on the earth. They claimed God as their Father, but Jesus told them that their
father was the devil. If Jesus Christ is the Word of God and he did not accept them, they had
no right to call God their Father, although they were very religious and devout to what they
believed.
No doubt the religious people of Matthew 7:21-23 accepted the word of God that had been
taught them, but it was not all that they needed to be saved or become children of God in
compliance with the Word of God. It is evident that some of what their leaders taught was
also incorrect. Obviously the gospel that they were taught by false teachers was a perverted
gospel (Galatians 1 :6-7) which cannot save souls. These people continued to have minds influenced,
motivated, and controlled by the emotions
and desires of the flesh. It is written that carnal man cannot understand or perceive the things
of the Spirit of God. The mind must be freed from the control of the flesh and this can
happen only when a carnal person hears the true and complete gospel and by his intelligence
he reasons he should obey.
2 Corinthians 3:13-17 -- We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to keep
the Israelites from gazing at it while the radiance was fading away.
being deceived.
2 Corinthians 3:13-17 -- We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to keep

ut their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old
covenant is read It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away.
Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts.
But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
Even in the days of the apostles there were false teachers, and even false apostles. Religious
people are usually eager to listen and believe what men of title teach. The apostle Paul talks
about false apostles of his day. He evidently confronted them and proved them to be false.
Some claimed to be ministers of the gospel. No doubt they were, but not the true gospel.
2 Corinthians 11:12-15 -- And I will keep on doing what I am doing in order to cut the
ground from under those who want an opportunity to be considered equal with us in the
things they boast about.
For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of
Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.
It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants a/righteousness. Their
end will be what their actions deserve.
So we can easily understand how those in Matthew 7 :21-23 who evidently had been deceived
by false teachers were not children of God. Yes, they were religious and devoted, but not
according to the will of God. By false teachers, deceiving spirits teaching them a false
gospel, they were kept from seeing the light or the true gospel.
2 Corinthians 4:3-4 -- And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are
perishing. The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the
light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
A deceived religious person can live a happy life with the assurance he is on his way to
heaven, on his way to salvation, when in reality he is not. This is the condition of those in
Matthew 7:21-23.
They were religious, devoted to what they believed, faithful to what they believed, and
obedient to what they believed, so much so that they claimed Christ as their Lord and Savior.
But as we have seen, Jesus told them He was not.
At the end of the Christian age, the judgment, He said He had never known them. He denied,
even during the Christian age, "that day," ever being their Lord. Since they had not received
the Holy Spirit of God, which is what determines whether we are Children of God or not,
they were not children of God.

Today the Holy Spirit of God is received in a small measure by the obedient believer at the
moment of obedience to the true and complete gospel, not before or after. Please do not
confuse this measure of the Holy Spirit with the baptismal measure, which had a different
purpose and a limited time.
The gospel contains the keys to the kingdom and is the fundamental doctrine of God's will
to man. For our spiritual family relationship to begin with God, we must first obey the
gospel. Then we shall have God as our Father and Jesus as our Lord.
2 John 1 :9 -- Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does
not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.
What I have written is true and in harmony with the Word of God. There are other scriptures
which prove this to be true. They are not used here to prove why Jesus did not know these
people, and therefore were not real Bible Christians because if a person does not accept as
truth what has been written here, he would not with 100 other scriptures.
But I pray to God, the Father and Creator, that He would open the understanding of the
person reading this and give him wisdom from above to know and understand the true and
complete gospel unto obedience so that he, with God's permission and authority, can call
Jesus "Lord, Lord. It
