Many men in this generation have set out to destroy the Bible, or at least use their influence to discredit it. Some of these people have never studied this book to see what it does say, but have merely presumed that it was false, or have accepted without investigation statements made by others who themselves had never bothered to read that which they condemn.
Some men say that the Bible is the product of human reasoning, but to any right thinking person this could not be true. First of all, man could not have produced it if he wanted, for it contains many things that are beyond human knowledge. Secondly, he would not have written it because it condemns too many things that man places great value upon. The Apostle Peter tells us concerning the Prophets that wrote and spoke in the Old Testament portion of the Bible, “…it was given by the Holy Spirit as humans spoke under God’s direction” (2 Peter 1:21b). Some men who profess to be learned men deny this statement yet they accept without reservation other statements made by the same author. How can this be? If some of the statements made in the Bible are authentic and some are not, how can we know the difference? Are some of the statements made in the Bible in error and some true? What is this book we know as the Bible?
The answer to this question is a simple one to everyone who believes in the God of Heaven; that God is interested enough in his creatures to communicate his Will to them. The Apostle Paul answers this question for us when he said, “Every Scripture passage is inspired by God. All of them are useful for teaching, pointing out errors, correcting people, and training them for a life that has God’s approval. They equip God’s servants so that they are completely prepared to do good things” (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Thus, we should have no problem in determining what is truth for the Apostle tells us that EVERY SCRIPTURE PASSAGE is inspired by God. If we can determine what is meant by “scripture” then we can know that which God has given to us.
My friend, what do you think about the Bible? Have you ever taken the time to personally read it, or have you merely allowed others to tell you what it says? Let us continue now to consider some basic facts about the Bible i.e. what it is, where did it come from, how was it written and why each of us ought to read and seek to understand God’s wonderful book and God’s wonderful plan for ourselves. †

What is the Bible?
Where did it come from?
How was it written?
And, why should each of us read and study it?
