In the Old Testament period God spoke directly to some men to reveal things to them. God doesn’t do that today. In Hebrews 1:1-2, we read, “In the past God spoke to our ancestors at many different times and in many different ways through the prophets. In these last days he has spoken to us through his Son…” God no longer speaks to men through the prophets but today Jesus Christ, the Son, is the one through whom He speaks. We have recorded in the New Testament the things that Jesus said, and instructed his disciples to teach after He went back to heaven. In the Bible, God warned that men should not change what He had said, “Never add anything to what I command you, or take anything away from it…." (Deut. 4:2).
This same warning is given for us today. In Galatians 1:8-9, the Apostle Paul writes, “Whoever tells you the good news that is different from the Good News we gave you should be condemned to hell, even if he is one of us or an angel from heaven. I’m now telling you again what we’ve told you in the past: If anyone tells you good news that is different from the Good News you received, that person should be condemned to hell." In Jude 3, we read, “Dear friends, ‘I had intended to write to you about the salvation we share. But something has come up. It demands that I write to you and encourage you to continue your fight for the Christian faith that was entrusted to God’s holy people once for all time.’” Thus Jude here says that the faith had been given once for all time when he was writing and we ought to contend (or strive) for that only. A lesson the “Latter Day Saints” folks should well learn.
The Apostle Paul wrote, “Every Scripture passage is inspired by God. All of them are useful for teaching, pointing out errors, correcting people, and training them for a life that has God’s approval. They equip God servants so that they are completely prepared to do good things." (1 Timothy 3;16-17). If all scripture comes from God and will make a man completely prepared (perfect as the KJV states) what could further revelations do?
Jesus said in John 12:48, that we would be judged by the words that He had spoken. These words by which we will be judged are contained in the New Testament. No man has any hope from God unless he is living by the will of God revealed through Jesus Christ. †
